Full Time Job, Full Time Mom, Full Time Roller Derby
The Petaluma Magazine saw my roller derby photos and decided to do a story for the next magazine and asked me to do the photos. They have to focus on Petalumans, obviously, so it made sense to continue photographing Honey D. Luxe, since I have so many photos already.
This time I tried to focus on Honey D. as a mom and how that affects her daughter Maya as well. Because to play roller derby means you are practicing 3 nights a week and traveling to bouts most weekends. This means Maya spends a lot of time at the roller rink waiting to go home.
Honey D. says there are some really good aspects to having Maya around the Derby girls. She likes how Roller Derby supports healthy female body types, because there are all shapes and sizes within the sport and each different size has its advantages. Erica feels this positive message for Maya, as she is entering the age when girls become body obsessed, outweighs any negative influences like cussing or smoking that also comes with the Derby scene.

most excellent! xoxo
You are amazing Paige. Great photos.
